SHAW TOWN COUNCIL PLANNING MEETING UPDATE
At a meeting held on Tuesday 8th April 2025 Shaw Town Council voted to pass the proposal for planning of St Pauls Former Church
There were over 200 objections on the planning portal
The planning application will now go before OMBC before a final decision is made
St Paul's Methodist Church has been badly let down in recent years.
The church and grounds were sold in December 2021, not much of the community knew about this.
The building is now used as a Mosque / Masjid with future plans to build a garden, store the original Chapel stones etc
Court proceedings for criminal damage to a Grade 2 listed building have ceased while OMBC and
The Masjid agree on a plan moving forward.
FURTHER UPDATE: 29th June 2025
Two members of St Pauls Heritage Group attended the site on the above date after being made aware work was being carried out.
The members recorded the incident for their own safety.
The members had been informed that railings were being cut down and wanted see if the Grade 2 listed building laws were being broken.
On arrival, 2 members of The Masjid were in the gardens, where the graves and tombs are. They had power tools and a wrench.
Immediately they became aggressive towards the St Pauls members.
The members of St Pauls were just attending to make sure no laws were broken. They were accused of being racist.
This continued for over an hour.
The Masjid were de-weeding, but there was no need for all the aggression. The Heritage group just always need to check so as to protect the tombs and graves.
The Police have been informed
